Council for Educational Change’s New Online Professional Development Tool Featured as Site of the Week

June 10, 2004

The Council for Educational Change’s newest online tool, Educational Leadership Assessment was chosen as the site of the week by eSchool News. The program was featured in both the print newspaper’s June edition and on the web site (www.eschoolnews.com) reaching an audience of more than 340,000 executive educators. They provide news and information necessary to help K-12 decision-makers successfully use technology and the Internet to transform schools and achieve educational goals.

The ELA is delivered through the Council’s Accelerated School Administrator Program. (www.asapportal.com) It is an individualized professional development initiative that prepares school administrators and teachers to be effective leaders and educators. The online tests are intended to determine whether candidates have sufficient and appropriate knowledge and experience to become a part of an educational leadership program—and whether they can make clear and appropriate decisions based on theoretical knowledge.

This online tool is designed to:

  • Help both aspiring and veteran principals who want to improve their skills to meet the professional development goals of No Child Left Behind
  • Enable districts to maximize professional development resources where they are needed
  • reduce the costs of travel, meeting space, and substitute teachers when evaluating the potential for veteran teachers to become school leaders.

The Council for Educational Change is the successor organization of the South Florida Annenberg Challenge initiative. The public-private $100 million initiative funded 102 innovative grant programs in the tri-county area, serving 378 schools, more than 280,000 students, 15,000 teachers, and 2,000 school and district leadership staff.
