Polk County School District Adopts New School Administrator Preparation Program to Meet Florida Requirements

Oviedo, FL, September 18, 2008

In order to meet the assessment standards required by the Florida State Board of Education, Polk County School District has adopted the Accelerated School Administrator Program (ASAP), developed by the Council for Educational Change (CEC) and Etraffic Solutions.  ASAP provides professional development in an interactive, online format that develops school administrators into effective leaders, ready for today's challenging school environment.

"By removing the subjective nature of assessing school principal candidates, districts can more accurately identify and guide administrative applicants’ leadership skills and decision-marking abilities.  ASAP provides the objective testing capability, which has now become a mandatory requirement in Florida and other states, to districts at a price that won’t break their budgets," said John Juricic, Partner, Etraffic Solutions.

Many of the ASAP modules are currently available to Florida educators free of charge through the William Cecil Golden website.  By adopting the full program, which includes its Educational Leadership Assessment, online In-Basket, and Portfolio tools, Polk County, in addition to using internship programs, now meets both the Level I and Level II certification requirements of Rule 6A-5.081, which came into effect in June of 2007.

Cheryl Joe, Director of Professional Development for Polk County Schools, says, "ASAP has been an essential part of the success of our School Principal Certification Program.  The reports, charts, surveys, and feedback from the ASAP staff have been phenomenal over the last three years.  The personal support of the ASAP staff has been the biggest asset to me as a Professional Development Director.  The ASAP Modules are in-depth and easy to use."

In addition, Polk County has added Etraffic’s Teacher Essentials program to its professional learning library.  The interactive lesson modules, each less than one hour in length, give K-12 teachers specific instructional strategies they can implement immediately in their classrooms.

"Polk County exemplifies the same proactive approach towards professional development as the top districts in the nation. Joining 9 of the 24 largest districts in North America by adopting the ASAP program, Polk County schools will soon begin to see results that positively impact leadership development," says Mary Ellen Bafumo, Ph.D., ASAP Program Director.
